This page describes how to produce the EUDEC diploma at your school – once your school has taken the needed steps to become eligible for handing out the EUDEC diploma. If you haven’t done so, please read and proceed as described on the general descriptive page for the diploma

Binding decision of EUDEC’s 2011 AGM:

Image
EUDEC member schools are eligible to give diplomas to people leaving their school upon the individual’s request, (if the school fulfils EUDEC’s core criteria for a democratic school).

The diploma shall have the following form:

  • Title page showing the EUDEC logo and the name of the student (same for every school)
  • One short general introductory page – same for every school, click link to see the text:
    • Explaining the unusual form of the diploma
    • Explaining democratic education
    • Listing the general benefits of having been at a democratic school (see the text below)
    • This page must be available in English and the respective national language.
      • You can find the text for that (compulsory) general introduction here. It is available in English and German language already. If neither is your school’s native language, please help to translate that text into your respective language.
  • An individual text about the person – written by friends of the individual (students and staff).
    • This text will be edited by the individual and finally approved by the individual and the group who wrote the text.
    • If there are serious objections, the school meeting has the right to decline someone receiving the diploma.
    • This text must include the length of time the inividual has attended the school.

In other words

So – if you or others at your school want to get the EUDEC diploma – here is how
to proceed:

1. Make sure that your school fulfills the criteria to be eligible to hand out the Diploma: see Diploma.
2. Contact info@eudec.org to get the necessary template-documents for the Diploma sent to your school.
Then for each individual person receiving a Diploma:
3. Have a meeting of all friends and people who had something to do with the person in question. At that meeting gather material/information/comments about what should be written into the individual letter of recommendation for that person – i.e. what were things that the person did like best to do (at the school and also elsewhere), what might be some of the person’s strengths, which activities was he/she involved in intensely, what were the extraordinary projects which that person contributed to etc.
4. Have a small group of people use this material to write/formulate the actual letter of recommendation.
5. The person who will recieve the Diploma has editing rights to the text. In case of a dispute about the contents of the text, the schools assembly of course has the power for a final decision.
6. The individual text is filled into the template received from info@eudec.org, the document is then printed at the school and signed and stamped with the schools seal, if available.
