Two communities, two countries, one shared vision

We invite you to take part in a volunteering experience at two educational communities in South
America: the Lombida Montessori Democratic School in Curacaví (Chile) and the LIBRES
Learning Community in Trujillo (Peru).
Both projects share the same conviction: a different kind of education is possible when it is
based on respect, autonomy, participation and collective creation. Drawing on its own identity,
each community provides a space for learning, exchanging experiences and contributing
through each person’s knowledge, skills and interests.
More than just a collaborative experience, this volunteering programme is an opportunity for
mutual learning. It stems from the bond between two communities that promote international
exchange as a way of strengthening democratic education and enriching educational practice.
We are looking for people who are keen to become part of the community’s daily life, share their
knowledge and learn through the in-person experience.

What will you experience as a volunteer?

Pedagogical learning, you will
● be part of communities that practise democratic education.
● observe and support processes of autonomous learning.
● take part in assemblies, circles, workshops, projects and other community activities.
● interact with educators, families, children and young people in a learning environment based
on horizontal collaboration.
● be able to contribute based on your knowledge, skills and interests.
Community life
Volunteering involves becoming part of the community’s daily life, building relationships, taking
on shared responsibilities and learning through living together. We are looking for people who
are willing to listen, collaborate and learn alongside others.
Culture and territory
As well as the educational experience, you’ll have time to get to know the local area, the culture
and the natural environment that give each community its identity and enrich its educational
programme.

Curacaví, Chile
The Escuela Democrática Lombida Montessori is situated in Curacaví, a town near Santiago,
surrounded by hills and countryside. Its location allows you to experience community life in a
peaceful setting, with easy access to the capital and its cultural, historical and recreational
attractions.

Trujillo, Perú
LIBRES, Learning Community, is situated opposite a beautiful hill and a vast area of dunes where people go sand-boarding, and it is possible to visit a lagoon for boat trips. It is 25 minutes from the city of
Trujillo, which is surrounded by beaches ideal for surfing and some of the main archaeological
sites in northern Peru, and is renowned for its cuisine and cultural richness.
As part of the community’s daily life, we also promote organic and syntropic farming practices,
fostering a mindful relationship with nature and sustainability
