Call for Papers

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “LabSchoolsEurope – Participatory Research for Democratic Education” we would like to invite interested educators across Europe to contribute to this Call for Papers for the series “Forschungsperspektiven” (Research Perspectives) of the University College of Teacher Education Vienna (ISSN 2412-799X). This volume will be published in November 2022.

Doing Democratic education in school and university

The volume focuses on the topic of democratic education as a task for schools and universities and aims at demonstrating a multi-perspective approach. Hands-on publications from school teachers, social educators, university lecturers and other educators concerning democratic-pedagogical innovations are highly welcomed. Practice-related and/or practical examples of good practice, such as concrete approaches, school projects or teaching sequences, which are not exclusively devoted to a theoretical level, are particularly desirable. Your article is supposed to inspire and motivate interested educators.

Democratic education should be understood in a broad and critical context. Therefore, not only contributions on school projects and activities that are clearly assigned to democratic education are welcomed, but also those school projects and activities that follow unusual paths of democratic education (e.g. artistic-creative approaches).

Introduce, for example, school and university projects that promote the education of students’ autonomy or self-reliance. Of interest are also those approaches to democratic education in which students and/or University college teachers are the focus of attention (initial, advanced, and continued training).

Timeline

In a first step, please submit a short abstract to Harald Knecht (harald.knecht@phwien.ac.at) by 10.03.2022 (max. 500 characters incl. spaces / please ask Harald Knecht about the possibility to get extra time, since the timing of this call is indeed very short). You will then receive further information on how to submit the manuscript. Your final manuscript should not exceed 15,000 characters (including spaces; excluding bibliography).

The international orientation of the volume is also reflected by the fact that English and German are equal publication languages. To guarantee an adequate timespan for revision the deadline for submission is 20.07.2022

By the practical orientation of the volume, we particularly want to encourage educators who have had little (or no) experience in publishing so far. The editors will guide and support you during the publication process (unfortunately limited by resources). In this way, the experiences and expertise of practitioners are brought together with those of theorists.

If you have any questions, please send an e-mail to: harald.knecht@phwien.ac.at.
